Today was all about getting settled; Moms took a bike ride in the morning, dads in the afternoon and kids may not have even noticed we were gone. But tomorrow, this Banff kitchen shelter becomes a ROAMSchool schoolhouse. #homeschool #roadschool #worldschool #travelwithkids #familytravel #familyeducation

Just. I mean. C’mon. First day of classes started with casting assignments and script review for a group play, introduction to Spanish introductions (¡Hola maestra!) and a version of Luz Roja/Luz Verde on the campground road, ukulele tuning/strumming and a first chord, and some basic wilderness first aid. Then, recess for the rest of the day! #roadschool #worldschool #homeschool #firstdayofschool #firstdayofmobilehomeschool

Felt like getting off campus this afternoon, so we took a road trip with @his.tinyasscamper and @her.tinyasscamper that eventually ended up at the Vermillion Lakes beneath Mt. Rundle. A beautiful fall day to play around on a fallen log (and make fierce lion faces). #gotourholidaycardpic #travelwithkids #familytravel #banff #vermillionlakes #mtrundle

It’s tricky to time a jumping picture when one arm is out of commission.
.
After disregarding the “Parking Lot Full” signs and flashing exits for shuttle stops 5 km up the road, we parked five large adventure tow vehicles in the lot closest to Lake Louise, and all 11 adults and 11 kids gathered for a short walk along the shore and a group pic.
.
Lake Louise is a swirling swarm of selfie sticks and tourism at its least appealing, but as on previous visits, we’ve always been able to find a quiet spot where we could use our Instagram-honed curation skills to mentally (and photographically) crop out the hordes and enjoy it on our own terms. The kids played on the rocks, and we talked about the glacial grinding that produced the fine silica in suspension that made the water a vivid blue and the genetic advantages of light, fluffy seed pods on the bushes beside the path in reproducing themselves.

Dreary day today so we invited a few of the ROAMSchoolers over to our trailer to make their own ukulele straps on Wynne’s sewing machine. Wynne loved playing teacher, and the straps turned out pretty great. #snowdaysewday #mobilehomeeconomics #homeschool #roadschool #worldschool #ukulele

We purposely booked sites surrounding one of these campground shelters with a wood burning stove and unlimited wood (thanks Parks Canada!). @airstream_charleston dutifully starts a fire about 15 minutes before school starts at 10:00 am so the “schoolhouse” is nice and cozy (as long as you’re wearing a puffy jacket 😜). We usually run three or four 30 minute sessions with a snack in the middle then break for lunch. Afternoons are for field trips, bike rides or never ending games of “Bears and Hunters,” a game this crew has made up. As soon as I understand the rules, I’ll let you know what they are. #roadschool #worldschool #homeschool #mobilehomeschool
