Long day at the ER, surgical procedure to reposition the bone (and two temporary pins to keep it there) and a two-part cast until the swelling goes down and the full arm cast can go on, but we were home by 9:00 pm and everyone’s in decent spirits this morning.

After a full morning of trailer prep yesterday (tires, wheel bearings, brake check and a much-needed wash) in prep for leaving in 12 days, the GetGone Gods have spoken; We’re not going anywhere for at least 4 weeks. #stayflexible #planforplanstochange #effintrampolines #brokenhumerusisnotfunny

Thanks all for the well-wishes. Sleep’s been a little tough, but otherwise everyone’s in good spirits, especially since Wynne helped me add a stuffed animal pocket to Mae’s sling. A #roadschool day even tho we haven’t quite yet hit the road. Junior Ranger badge number 29 for 6 yr old Wynne and the first real one for 4 yr old Mae (the dimple has earned her a couple “honorary badges” over the years) at the Marin Headlands section of the Golden Gate National Park. Listen closely on the vid (first swipe) to hear Mae even get a couple words in on the pledge!

We also stopped by the nearby Marine Mammal Center to see some rescued animals and learn about their program. This is a serious #instacrop. Yeah, it’s pretty at the beach, but we’re packed in with 5th wheels and class A’s all around. With one more doctor’s appointment before we can blast north to join our tribe of nomadic breeders for the first annual ROAMSchool caravan of collaborative education and adventure, we need to stay close to home for another few days. We left the trailer most of the day today, first lunch at our favorite @redtrucktahoe cafe where we could watch the small planes land while eating great food (they catered our rehearsal dinner 8 years ago) outdoors on the grass next to the playground and then for a bike ride along the Truckee River on the Legacy Trail.

By the time we got home, I was sure we’d have collected enough solar to top off the batteries from a cold night of running the furnace, but the combo of a shady parking spot and roof panels that I later figured out were caked with a year of grime had only yielded about 10ah.
.
With the 120W ground deploy on a 15’ extension cable and my assistant on the telescoping ladder cleaning the roof panels, we’re now collecting 7 amps even at 5 pm.

It’s not easy to be here and wish you were somewhere else, but the pictures from the first few days of ROAMSchool 2018 in Jasper sure are helping us feel that way. Tomorrow, we head home for Mae’s last x-rays and hopefully a green light to join the group up north.

One of the things I always love about being on the road is being able to stop somewhere random, decide to hang out for a bit and then realizing that you have beach chairs, a blanket and sand toys (even paddleboards!) right there in the back of the truck. A beautiful day on Donner Lake.
