Washington D.C. and north to Mystic

On @upintheairstream, @ryanaweschrum and @jackintheairstream's tour of the National Mall, we did two of the following three things: 1) got pizza, mint ice tea and apple bread at the Friday morning USDA Farmer's Market (verdict? Grade A!); 2) almost got run over by Bob Dole's wheelchair; 3) had the kids sit on Lincoln's lap and ask him for Paw Patrol toys. Thanks for showing us around! #nationalmall #washingtondc #littleairstreamfriends #yeswynneinsistedonholdingryanshand

What do you call dragging two kids around Washington D.C. to as many national monuments as possible in 90 degree heat? Capitol punishment. #boom #dchumor #familytravel #travelwithkids #roadschool #wynnehangingwiththefamily

So the one review on @campendium by @wandering_tim and @wandering_amanda did mention something about a tick infestation at this campground, but we couldn't pass up the proximity to a friend we were visiting and access to the Metro, and figured, how bad could it be? Within minutes of arriving, we pulled the first ticks of each kid. And in the next hour, we pulled about 10 more. Just a moment ago, as I sat on the couch typing this, I looked down to find a tick crawling on my shorts. Sorry for doubting you, Tim and Amanda. All that being said, it really is a nicely located campground, and we rode the Metro info the city twice, parking at the station about 10 minutes away for $6/day. As for the ticks, we figured stripping the kids down to their lily white skin was the best way to spot the little buggers, perfect in the heat anyway, and we found a great naturopathic home remedy called Distilled Enzyme Electrolyte Therapy at the Cabellas. I guess some people just refer to it by the acronym. #itllbeinmycampendiumreview #greenbeltpark #airstreamwithkids #rvwithkids #campingwithkids #nervousticks

It cost us $62.95 to drive up I-95 from D.C. to Philadelphia, $43 in tolls and $19.95 for the stinky slinky that slithered out of its tube mounted below the belly pan of the trailer. It's happened twice before, first in the Yukon on a gravel section of the Alaska Highway where I happened to see it cartwheeling down the road behind us and was able to circle around to retrieve it, and second on our last push to get to @advodna_ann's brothers house in Massachusetts last Fall where luckily we didn't need it. We can make due with our extension hose for one more stop over the holiday weekend and then we'll be back in Massachusetts where we left from late last January where I'll need to figure out a better way to keep our next one from wriggling out if the cap rattles loose again. For now, we're happily moochdocked outside of Philadelphia visiting friends and enjoying some "endless" water. #littlemouseswashingwheeledhouses #moochdocking #stinkyslinky

Reliving some of the old glory days and making new ones with @racmenlo. Along with some old show posters, here's a print of us with @dacawa, @rfwagner and @john.norwood playing the SF Bluegrass and Old-Time Fest circa 2005. We thought we looked serious and professional by dressing up in suits, until a member of one of our favorite bands said we looked like a buncha lawyers. #ouch #homespunrowdy #sfbluegrass

What just happened? I think I blacked out for a good bit of the drive from Philadelphia to New Haven via the George Washington Bridge on a holiday weekend. Actually, other than $50 to cross the bridge, it wasn't tooooo bad other than some upper/lower level confusion and a fairly constant stream of drivers who simply *had* to be in front of the big slow Airstream that was also stuck in traffic. Pro Tip: If you're going to take this route, do it while the baby is asleep so you and your navigator can only yell at each other in whispers. #airstream #airstreamintherearview #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #georgewashingtonbridge

Didn't take long for these four to get reacquainted. Or shirtless. We made it all the way to Mystic, CT to spend the weekend with @mastermarx and @margaretleonard and fam. #littleairstreamfriends #pawpatrolparty #airstreamwithkids

The Mystic Memorial Day Parade included some of the nearby towns' most impressive municipal vehicles (not pictured). Thanks @margaretleonard and @mastermarx for showing us around your summer haunt. #memorialdayparade #shriners #bigpeepsonlittlejeeps

Yes, we got ice cream. And for the same reasons we like them sharing a bed in the trailer (and a room in the "small house" we're planning), they shared a cone quite calmly and equally! #sisterhoodofthetravelingparents #sisters

This campground was *packed* over the holiday weekend with a DJ on Sunday night and people everywhere. Now it's back to just us and The Leonards (@mastermarx and @margaretleonard). Tomorrow, we'll head north towards Boston to moochdock with family for a couple weeks before flying west to CA. #airstream #pairstream #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #alumapaloozers

Uh oh. Another girl on horseback thanks to @margaretleonard. Mae only made it halfway around the ring before declaring she wanted to ride another horse, but Wynne had the same natural calmness she did last time.
